Mid-Pandemic Pedagogy: A Candid Dialogue between Student and Literature Professor

In this article, an English professor and a sophomore-level major explicate the singular difficulties of teaching learning Virginia Woolf’s novel Mrs Dalloway mid-pandemic. These arise despite fact that would seem ideal for our historical moment in US. Woolf offers her readers searing insights into pandemic casualties, trauma, ruinous disillusionment with political systems, radical isolation fragmented society. Working together, student identify potent reasons why from can be so difficult. We unpack serious yet widely misunderstood gap between students’ educators’ perspectives: widened since 2020 by combination remote social media consumption. then recommend intellectual pedagogical strategies illuminate ways not required before pandemic, while also bridging perceptual gaps classroom professors students. Studying interpreting Dalloway, invested illuminating myriad perspectives on PTSD, ruination, is difficult uniquely vital moment—though expected.
